Bubble Study
What is it for?
A Bubble Study is an add-on to an echocardiogram and can identify potential blood flow issues inside your heart. Check out our description of an echocardiogram for more information.
How do I prepare?
No special preparation is required. Eat, drink, and take medications as normal.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Agitated saline is injected via IV to assess for heart anomalies. It is mixed with a small amount of air to create tiny bubbles that are injected into your vein. This fluid will circulate to your heart and will show up on your echocardiogram image. The doctor will be looking to ensure your lungs will filter out the bubbles.
What can I expect after the procedure?
There are no side effects and patients can go back to their usual diet and activities.
