Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
What is it for?
Is used to measure blood pressure as you live your normal daily life and is measured for up to 24 hours. The device captures your blood pressure every 30-60 mins, even as you sleep. This procedure will provide a more accurate picture of your blood pressure numbers.
How do I prepare?
Eat, drink, and take medications as normal. Wear a loose-fitted shirt and avoid the use of body creams and lotions.
What can I expect during the procedure?
A small digital, portable blood pressure monitor will be attached to you for 24 hours to monitor your blood pressure. It is normally attached to a belt around your waist and connected to a cuff around your upper arm.
What can I expect after the procedure?
There are no side effects and patients can go back to their usual diet and activities.
Note: This test is not covered by OHIP. A fee of $75 is required.
